A large garden is great, but creating a cosy corner in a big lawn can be challenging. A problem familiar to this family. When they’re in Belgium, they want to enjoy as much outdoor life as possible, just like at their holiday home in Spain. Our partner Bourbon-Sleeckx designed a stylish garden lounge for them with premium customization by Umbris.
What makes Umbris unique? It offers shelter without the boxy feeling. Since we customize and manufacture all of our louvred roofs in-house, you never get the sense that a generic, one-size-fits-all cover has been installed in your garden. The garden lounge is also fully tailored to its surroundings, with an unobstructed view of the garden from both inside and out.
The combination of a wooden panelling with an aluminium louvred wall provides both seclusion and a feeling of protection. Take note of the aesthetic details: the louvred roof’s design is visually attractive, with the louvred wall not fully extending into the corner, which creates the illusion of a longer roof. Furthermore, the placement of the support pole in the centre rather than the two outer corners gives the lounge a dynamic look, distinguishing the Umbris from a traditional patio cover. The difference between the wooden roof element and the aluminium louvres is a contributing factor. It is pure, well-designed finesse.
The family’s home has a sleek design, with flat roofs and large rectangular windows. But the warm finish – from the terracotta facing stone to the cosy interior design – ensures that the home is far from sober. In short: warm minimalism in a contemporary framework.
The team at Bourbon-Sleeckx reprised this ambiance in the garden lounge. While the profiles are finished in the same black RAL colour as the windows of the house, the solid wood rear wall infuses the design with warmth. The same wood is used in the decorative beams above the dining table.

The unique combination of various components allows the client to determine the atmosphere in the garden lounge. Allow a ray of sunshine to penetrate the louvred roof while you read a book? Or create full shade for an undisturbed lunch on the patio? Let it depend on your mood and the weather –
everything is possible. The vertical louvres of the louvred wall can also be fully closed, for more privacy or protection from the elements. Depending on how you manually adjust the panels, they either let in a refreshing summer breeze or stop a strong wind.
To make the lounge even more enjoyable, we have added a dimmable mood light, as well as the Eclipse van Bromic, which provides the necessary heat. This moveable heating and lighting solution not only provides warmth but also adds a designer touch to the patio, elevating the overall ambiance.
